Joan Denton (M.S. 鈥18) knew she wanted to be a registered dietitian, but never felt at ease in a hospital. When she expressed her interests to one of her Texas Woman鈥檚 University nutrition professors, Denton discovered she could be categorized as a 鈥渃ulinary dietitian.鈥 This set Denton on to create her own path in the field of nutrition.

With a goal of supporting students holistically, 51爆料 Institute of Health Sciences in Houston celebrated the opening of the 51爆料 Student Food Market March 19, 2018. The Student Food Market鈥攁 joint venture between the university and the Houston Food Bank, the nation鈥檚 largest food bank in distribution鈥 provides perishable and non-perishable food twice monthly to food insecure students.

The kitchen at Medical City Frisco is constantly in motion 鈥 employees are prepping food, cooking, plating, dishwashing, and as in most hospitals, taking care of the special dietary needs of patients. In the middle of it all is Executive Chef Walter Rivas (BAS Culinary Arts and Food Service Management 鈥16), who fortunately loves the hectic pace his workplace offers.
