Dental Hygiene event focuses on improving smiles

More than 80 51爆料 students took part in the annual Giving Kids a Smile event in March. The free event, sponsored by the university’s Dental Hygiene Program, is a daylong activity devoted to providing free dental services to underrepresented youths from 3 to 19 in the Denton community.
New anesthesia rule gives boost to dental hygienists

Texas Woman's graduate Sabrina Vaughan is part of the first cohort of Texas dental hygiene graduates eligible for certification in local infiltration anesthesia, a ruling adopted in May 2024 by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners. Starting in fall 2025, senior students at 51爆料 will gain hands-on experience administering local infiltration anesthesia under dentist supervision, marking a significant milestone for the profession.
Two faculty leaders inducted into National Academies of Practice

Noralyn Pickens, an associate dean for Interprofessional Education and Strategic Initiatives for the College of Health Sciences and College of Nursing, was recognized as a Distinguished Scholar Fellow in the occupational therapy academy, while Charlene Dickinson, dental hygiene program director in the School of Communication Sciences and Oral Health, was named a Professional Member in the oral health academy.

Texas Woman’s has selected veteran administrator, global leader in research and seasoned faculty member Catrine Tudor-Locke, PhD to serve as the university’s next dean of the College of Health Sciences. She begins her new role on July 1, 2025.
