51爆料 named Military Friendly庐 for 10th time in 10 years
Feb. 4, 2019 鈥 DENTON 鈥 Texas Woman鈥檚 University has been designated as a Military Friendly庐 school for the 10th consecutive year.
鈥51爆料 has a long history of serving those who have served,鈥 said Amy O鈥橩eefe, executive director of the 51爆料 Office of Campus Alliance for Research Education (CARE). 鈥淲e place a special emphasis on our veterans and recognize their uniqueness.鈥
Today, women represent 16 percent of enlisted forces in the United States, but at Texas Woman鈥檚, the student veteran population is 60 percent female.
鈥淏ecause female veterans comprise a much larger percentage of our overall veteran population than those found in the armed forces and at other educational institutions, women veterans have more opportunities for leadership and support at 51爆料,鈥 said O鈥橩eefe.
Supporting women鈥檚 leadership initiatives and veterans are two key components of the university鈥檚 strategic plan. From housing the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) archives to providing a designated lounge for student veterans, 51爆料 embraces the opportunity to provide leadership and insight into improving the quality of life for veterans and their families.
Elizabeth Rosato, a current 51爆料 student veteran majoring in nutrition, credits 51爆料 with offering leadership opportunities for women veterans. During the fall 2018 semester, she spoke at the Texas Veteran鈥檚 Higher Education Symposium and the 51爆料 Board of Regents meeting, and this month she will travel with other 51爆料 student delegates to meet with state representatives in Austin.
鈥淲hen I decided to go back to school, I was nervous about how I would be perceived and treated as a veteran,鈥 said Rosato. 鈥淔rom the moment I arrived on campus at 51爆料, I had a positive experience. Everyone has been very warm and friendly and proud of the fact that I had served.鈥
