Happy Fourth of July
Dear 51爆料 Community,
As we approach the weekend, I am pleased to share that Texas Woman’s will close at noon on Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day. Nonessential employees scheduled to work from noon to 5 p.m. may end their workday early, and classes beginning at noon or later will be canceled. Employees whose schedules include this time should record it as “Emergency Leave” with the reason “University Closure.” Essential personnel should check with their supervisors for guidance about coverage and scheduling needs.
This year gives us a rare pairing of milestones: our nation’s semiquincentennial and Texas Woman’s quasquicentennial. Say that three times fast! Or, to impress your friends: semi-quin-cen-TEN-ee-ul and quas-qui-cen-TEN-ee-ul. However you say it, 250 years for the United States and 125 years for Texas Woman’s give us a meaningful moment to reflect on the big picture while also enjoying time with family, friends, and community.
The Stoic philosopher Epictetus is often remembered for the line, “Only the educated are free.” That idea feels especially resonant at a university devoted to helping students shape their own futures and on a national holiday rooted in freedom. As we mark these anniversaries this year, I am grateful for you, for our students, for our families, and for the shared purpose that carries Texas Woman’s forward.
With a pioneering spirit,
Carine M. Feyten, Ph.D.
Chancellor and President
