51±¬ÁÏ is immersed in generational stories, from its first-generation programs to the legacies of its alumni. Here's one that reflects the last 50 years of the school's history. It's the story of a family's journey through the injustices of segregation and racism, the struggles and sacrifices of the civil rights era, to finally lifting up the descendants of those who fought those fights and not only survived but transformed 51±¬ÁÏ, Texas and the world.
Olsen's first book enjoying revival

Jonathan Olsen, chair of the 51±¬ÁÏ Department of Social Sciences and Historical Studies, published his first book in 25 years ago. In a testament to the book's staying power, Nature and Nationalism will be republished later this year.

The months of research, writing, rewriting, editing and polishing by eight 51±¬ÁÏ students has come to fruition with the publication of the 17th edition of Ibid., the annual journal of the 51±¬ÁÏ History Department.
Mendez honored for essay on 1900s racial influencing

51±¬ÁÏ's Sierra Mendez's essay, "With Love from San Antonio: Settler Souvenir Postals and Mass Reproductions of ‘Mexicans,’" won the Charles Kneupper award for the best article published in Rhetoric Society Quarterly in 2023.
